Andrew Goodwin's method of analysing music videos

Andrew Goodwin's Music Video Analysis is all about defining the characteristics of music videos.  There are 6 main methods of analysing music video such as:

1. Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics 
2. The demand of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motif which recur across their work
3. There are frequent references to the notion of looking and particularly voyeuristic/erotic treatment of the female body
4. There is a relationship of lyrics and visuals
5. There is a relationship of music and visuals
6. There is often inter-textual reference
